Xenotransplant trial underway at CCRep

The Centre for Clinical Research and effective practice (CCRep) is working with Living Cell Technologies (LCT)to conduct a Phase I/II clinical trial testing the safety and efficacy of LCT's encapsulated porcine islet cells (DiaBCELL®) in patients with type 1 diabetes. The trial is being conducted at Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland and involves transplanting up to 8 patients.

Middlemore Tissue Bank launched

The Centre for Clinical Research and Effective Practice (CCRep) has announced the establishment of a tissue bank at Middlemore Hospital for the collection of human tumour-related research biospecimens for research. Made possible by a grant from the Freemasons Roskill Foundation the Middlemore Tissue Bank will begin collecting samples in the second half of 2010.
